Are They Effective?

Most people experience pain on the heel when they wake up in the morning and begin to walk. There is less pain and stiffness after a while; however, the pain may increase during the day. The pain can occur when you stand or sit for a long time too. The illness is caused when there is strain on the ligament that provides support to the arch. Tiny ligament tears are caused when there are repeated strains resulting in swelling and pain. Continued stretching of the plantar fascia can result in heel spur which is a bone-like development on the heel. Flat feet or high arches can be a cause.

Other terms for over-pronation are ‘fallen arches’, ‘dropped arches’ or ‘collapsed arches’. The term ‘ flat feet ’ is also often used. However, a true ‘ flat foot ‘ is very rare. In fact, less than 5% of the population have completely flat feet (Pes Planus) with no arch present whatsoever. Most of us (90%) have a normal to low arch and only 5% have a high arch. People with a high arch (Pes Cavus) are also called ‘over-supinators’. This means that the foot stays rigid at all times and lacks its natural shock-absorbing mechanism.

Well it was the best decision I have ever made. These things have literally changed my life for the better. I have only gotten slightly sore feet once since I got them, and even that was 3/4 better than it had been in the past. The other day I took my kids Trick or Treating and even though the two older ones pooped out after the first hour and a half, my little guy and I walked around Trick or Treating with only one break for about 3 hours, and I did not have an ounce of foot pain.

Plantar Fasciitis is a very common condition caused by over-pronation. As the feet flatten, the Plantar Fascia (fibrous band of ligaments under the foot ) is being overly stretched, leading to inflammation in the heel, where the fascia attach to the heel bone. Plantar Fasciitis causes chronic heel pain and sometimes a heel spur develops (bony growth at the heel bone). Orthotics correct the problem of over-pronation and they re-align the foot and ankle bones to their neutral position, restoring our natural foot function. In turn, this will help alleviate problems not only in the feet , but also in other parts of the body!

You are supposed to start with just the inserts – no plugs – the first week, then after your feet acclimate to the inserts, move up to the Level 1 plugs, then Level 2 and so on. This is supposed to happen very gradually – 2-3 weeks for each level, but I’m a pretty bad patient! I was in so much pain from not having any support under my feet – which is what my feet had come to depend on – that I think in the first 2 weeks I jumped up to Level 4 or 5 to give my feet some relief!flat feet insoles

People who suffer from flat feet are also prone to develop the injuries mentioned above. However, adults with flat feet have less chances than children to recover their arches, giving the fact that the tissues and muscles have stopped developing. There is no physical therapy or exercise regimen that can re generate the arch once it has fallen. Surgery is a treatment of last resort. In rare cases, a child will continue to have pain or disabling fatigue after all conservative treatments are attempted. Surgery is invasive and often unnecessary to control flatfoot pain, so it is not attempted until the doctor and parent have exhausted all other treatment options.

Have you been dreaming to play a piano? Dream no more. Get on with the action. After all, playing the piano is not as difficult as people say it is. I can explain why this is so. Look at a guitar, for example. The space and the number of strings are limited. But when it comes to a piano, you will have at least 88 keys to meddle and make sound with. Isnt that a luxury? If you are one of the many people that has taken piano lessons and has lost interest in them, then you may be interested in some ways to renew your interest in the piano.

However, orthotics will not cure these conditions if they have fully developed, as deformities require surgery to fix and inflammation from foot strain requires medication and rest. Orthotics function as long-term maintenance devices for more serious conditions, most importantly eliminate the fatigue associated with flat feet Properly supportive shoes are also a necessity in this equation, as without stiffer soled more supportive shoes, orthotics have to fight with the shoe to function properly, reducing their effectiveness. Symptomatic flat feet in children should be treated. Most children will not “grow out of it” contrary to popular beliefs. If your child is having pain in their feet, help is on the way!

Depending from case to case, some people are predisposed to having calluses on feet. People like the elderly with more inelastic skin, women who wear high pencil heels, or a person with flat feet have more risk of having this skin problem. Having calluses may seem like a very small problem; however it still requires much attention. Carelessness and neglect could lead to unnecessary complications. As the child develops, the various ligaments of the bones of the feet start to develop and strengthen, and the arches become apparent. Occasionally this may be late in occurring or they may be weak, and body weight may keep the soles against the floor.

Because of heart valve abnormalities, most people with Marfan syndrome are prone to infections in those valves. They must be treated with oral antibiotics to prevent infection of valves by bacteria in the blood stream before routine dental work, including a cleaning, as well as before any kind of surgery. Those who have had valve replacement surgery sometimes require higher doses of antibiotics which are usually given by injection.
