Most people experience pain on the heel when they wake up in the morning and begin to walk. There is less pain and stiffness after a while; however, the pain may increase during the day. The pain can occur when you stand or sit for a long time too. The illness is caused when there is strain on the ligament that provides support to the arch. Tiny ligament tears are caused when there are repeated strains resulting in swelling and pain. Continued stretching of the plantar fascia can result in heel spur which is a bone-like development on the heel. Flat feet or high arches can be a cause.
Other terms for over-pronation are ‘fallen arches’, ‘dropped arches’ or ‘collapsed arches’. The term ‘ flat feet ’ is also often used. However, a true ‘ flat foot ‘ is very rare. In fact, less than 5% of the population have completely flat feet (Pes Planus) with no arch present whatsoever. Most of us (90%) have a normal to low arch and only 5% have a high arch. People with a high arch (Pes Cavus) are also called ‘over-supinators’. This means that the foot stays rigid at all times and lacks its natural shock-absorbing mechanism.
Well it was the best decision I have ever made. These things have literally changed my life for the better. You are supposed to start with just the inserts – no plugs – the first week, then after your feet acclimate to the inserts, move up to the Level 1 plugs, then Level 2 and so on. This is supposed to happen very gradually – 2-3 weeks for each level, but I’m a pretty bad patient! I was in so much pain from not having any support under my feet – which is what my feet had come to depend on – that I think in the first 2 weeks I jumped up to Level 4 or 5 to give my feet some relief!
People who suffer from flat feet are also prone to develop the injuries mentioned above. However, adults with flat feet have less chances than children to recover their arches, giving the fact that the tissues and muscles have stopped developing. There is no physical therapy or exercise regimen that can re generate the arch once it has fallen. Surgery is a treatment of last resort. In rare cases, a child will continue to have pain or disabling fatigue after all conservative treatments are attempted. Surgery is invasive and often unnecessary to control flatfoot pain, so it is not attempted until the doctor and parent have exhausted all other treatment options.

Depending from case to case, some people are predisposed to having calluses on feet. People like the elderly with more inelastic skin, women who wear high pencil heels, or a person with flat feet have more risk of having this skin problem.
